Eight-Year Difference

I recently was in a slump, so I decided it might be interesting to draw updated versions of characters I made up back when i was still in my Freshman Year of High School.

The first pic is of a character design of a young boy-wizard (Pre-Harry Potter Generation, thank you very much.) named Arnis that I drew back in 1999.

Now here's the updated version of him that I drew a few weeks ago at work.
...It's interesting how much a person's style can change in eight years, isn't it? I'm not entirely sure what I should do with him, though. The project I had originally made up that involved him has been long abandoned, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's useless, now does it? I'm sure I can think of something for him. :3

Comments, of course, are always welcome.

Webcomic Designs

So first up I've got a few designs for this webcomic idea I've been thinking of doing for a while, now. I've tried to do a strip, but I still feel like I really need to work on panels. I seem to have this problem of drawing too large when I do actually start up on something.

I'll have to work on that.

So anyway, here's a shot of the cast I've created for the comic, called Villains For Higher, which consists of four would-be supervillains who live together. Basically, the comic would serve as my own opinion on comics today and how utterly bullshit some of them have gotten. Also a few jokes regarding the absurdity of much older cartoons and such. It's better in the execution than the explanation, if you ask me.

Starting with the top left is probably my main vocal character, young Mad Scientist, Sol Nastiman (which, originally was named as a satire of Sol Badguy from the Guilty Gear series. I was 17 when I made him. Shut the fuck up.), as well as his lazier roomate, and Apprentice to the Dark Magic Arts (Serving for the evil sorceror archetype) to the right. Currently, he remains unnamed, but for the sake of keeping consistent, let's just call him Dax, for now.

Beneath Sol is another unnamed character, who for the time being will have to be stuck with the name Jo-jo. Jo-jo is the basic comic book villain archetype, who goes through various apprenticeships during the strip, temping for more famous cartoon and comic badguys at the most absurd moments in their series. I've already got an idea for him temping with The Shredder during the original Ninja Turtles cartoon.

To the right of him is Carl, the Angry Loose Cannon archetype, complete with claws and cat costume. I'm still working on him.

What I've got here is a a small color test i did for Sol, just to see which color scheme looks beter on him. So far, people have said the orange color suits him pretty well, although in all honesty, I'm still having a tough time deciding.

This was just another teaser pic, basically. It also allowed me to practice drawing more of their bodies, if not just their arms. Carl felt a little rushed, there at the bottom next to Jo-jo. He looks like crap, if you ask me...

So far, that's pretty much all the designs I have for them. May or may not use them, or I might even save them for an entirely different project sometime later.
